"The S. boulardii is making a huge difference for me. I went for a light 30 min jog the night before last and felt great afterwards. I feel like my fatigue is diminishing and I feel slightly sharper. Additionally my gut hurts a lot less. I am taking four in the morning and four in the evening. I might add four more at Noon. So far, this has been the biggest improvement in my overall wellbeing in many, many years."

In 2005 I had been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). At the time I declined the option to start prescription medication and instead began to change my diet to eliminate/reduce foods, which would cause my RA to flare; this worked satisfactorily for a few years. My regiment of 3 Aleve before bed and a very hot shower in the morning kept the pain level at manageable levels, but then the RA took over. By 2009, increased swelling of joints from elbows to fingers caused limited motion and pain increased significantly; over the counter pain meds and lotions, massage, saunas, etc., were having no effect. I was a relatively young (early 40’s), athletic male, in good shape, but in the span of a few years, opening doors, bottles, etc. became painful, frustrating exercises. That’s it, I had had enough; a search for a research doctor led me to Dr. Powell.

My first visit was quite different – it became clear my success in fighting RA needed to be a partnership with Dr. Powell. X-rays, blood tests, and a strength test ensued. The results were in: RF of 651, high c-reactive protein (inflammation), low vitamin D, Epstein-Barr, and significant weakness in both hands. I was still reluctant to start prescription medication but Dr. Powell explained in great detail how the meds could help immediately to reduce pain, swelling, and prevent further joint damage.

Use of Enbrel and Plaquenil began, plus a strict schedule of supplements and further changes to my nutrition intake. I experienced pain reduction almost immediately and my overall health started to increase. I didn’t realize the digestive issues I was experiencing were not normal and I started to feel more energized and was able to sleep more restfully.

Approximately 16 to 18 months later, new tests showed my body was absorbing the nutrients, motion and strength in my hands was being restored, inflammation is practically gone and I'm no longer in any pain. My most recent test results indicate RF of 24, DAS28 of 1.66, and anti-CCP of 41; needless to say these are great results. Dr. Powell drastically decreased my prescription medication, cutting Plaquenil in half and basically stopped Enbrel injections. Per his instructions, I continue to take daily supplements to maintain specific levels (ie, much less than in the beginning) because, as Dr. Powell showed, RA patients lack important minerals and vitamins due to the disease. I’m now happily in remission!

I highly recommend Dr. Powell; his relentless pursuit fighting rheumatic diseases on behalf of his patients is to be commended. Thank you Dr. Powell for your work to restore my health to one that is once again active and pain-free."

Thanks again and have a wonderful new year,

Curtis

Dr. Powell has changed my life! When I first came to see him, I had trouble walking and could barely hold my 6 month old daughter. Under his guidance I made dietary changes, began taking Enbrel and was able to exercise more. Through these factors and lots of determination I was able to train for a half- marathon last year. Currently I am tapering off the Enbrel and am in remission.

Happy patient, Meredith

Dr. Powell is a hero. [Thank you, but it is the researchers writing the papers I read who are the heroes- Dr. Powell] I found Dr. Powell after visiting 2 other doctors. One of them wanted to put me on toxic drugs to treat my RA. I refused. The other one put me on a diet, gave me pain pills, and gave me laser therapy.

I didn’t want to poison my body with high doses of toxic drugs that had bad side effects. The diet didn’t improve my RA and neither did the laser therapy. I didn’t care how much pain I was in, I didn’t want to take pain pills either and so I didn’t. When I went to Dr. Powell I had a lot of pain and if I walked for more than 10 minutes at a time, I was in severe pain for 2 weeks. I wasn’t able to make a fist in either hand. My fingers were stuck open. I followed Dr. Powell’s treatment that consisted of supplement therapy, small dietary changes, hand therapy, eliminating stress, and small doses of prescription drugs.

[We focused on treating deficiencies, toxins and infections that have been linked to autoimmune disease- Dr. Powell]

After 5 months, I was able to run, do push-ups, walk a mile, make a fist, and carry heavy objects without pain. The only RA drug I take now is one without side effects that keeps the swelling down. My blood pressure even went down to normal after being on blood pressure medication for over 10 years.

Michael,

Hello and I hope this finds you well! Again, as I have over the last two years, I just want to thank you for the amazing help I’ve received from you through Dr. Powell’s work at the Fibro Clinic. I am so grateful!

I last saw you in the early summer, I believe, and I was supposed to come in again in 3-4 months. Sorry I haven’t…but I am doing so much better. I just kept improving. I continue to take the supplements and such (bought online), and my fibro has settled into mostly mild mode most of the time and I’ve again been able-bodied doing my own chores and errands (being careful as necessary). I will come again if/when my fibro starts being difficult again. THANKS -Andrea

April 28, 2003 Dr. Powell,

I had meant to mention in my last note that when I mentioned you to Dr. H, he was quick to sing your praises. I have actually found that whenever your name is mentioned in the community or with friends of patients under your care, people go out of their way to commend you as a doctor and a person.

You obviously have a wonderful reputation and connection to people.

I just wanted to share that.

Just a short note to say a huge thank you for your professional, expert, efficient, kind, understanding, but thorough care and treatment you have given me. If you had told me a year ago I would be on my way to Australia I would have laughed at you. But thanks to you this miracle has happened and I’m on my way and I will be eternally grateful to you - God bless you.

Thank you for saving my life. I’ll put another shrimp on the barbie for you. Good luck and success.

Love, Carol
